WS Form Testing

CheckView officially supports automated testing of WS Form, in both the free WS Form (Lite) and WS Form PRO. WS Form appears as a form plugin when you create a test flow, and CheckView builds the test steps for you, no manual step configuration required. Forms embedded with the WS Form block and forms embedded with the [ws_form] shortcode both work.

Requirements

CheckView helper plugin 2.0.1 or newer. WS Form support was added in 2.0.1, and later releases have improved it, so keep the helper plugin up to date. See Installing and Updating the CheckView Helper Plugin.
The form published in WS Form. Only published forms are listed when you create a test flow.
The form embedded on a published page, post or synced pattern with the WS Form block or the [ws_form] shortcode, so CheckView can find the page it appears on.

What CheckView does on a WS Form test

Automatic test generation. CheckView detects your WS Form forms, finds the pages they appear on, including pages that use the form through a synced pattern, and generates the test steps automatically. WS Form builds its fields with JavaScript after the page loads, so CheckView waits for the rendered form before it starts.
Email suppression. The recipients of the form’s Send Email action are replaced with the CheckView test inbox during a test run, so your real recipients never receive test submissions. CC and BCC recipients are stripped.
Anti-spam and CAPTCHA handling. WS Form’s own reCAPTCHA, hCaptcha and Cloudflare Turnstile fields are removed from the form for CheckView test sessions only, and its honeypot and Akismet spam check are skipped the same way. CheckView also handles CleanTalk, hCaptcha for WordPress, Simple Cloudflare Turnstile and WP Armour. See Automatic Disabling of Anti-Spam and CAPTCHA Plugins.
Integration suppression. When Disable Form Integrations During Tests is on, CheckView runs only the form’s Save Submission, Show Message and Send Email actions for a test submission. Webhooks, CRM and email marketing actions and every other action on the form are skipped. Save Submission is kept so submission validation can run, and Send Email is kept so the email can be verified. See Disable Form Integrations During Tests.
Database submission validation. The submission is copied into the CheckView tables and verified against the values the bot entered, then deleted from WS Form’s own submissions so your entries stay clean. See Database Test Submission Validation.
Date and time fields. WS Form’s date picker is supported in both its pop-up and inline styles, for date, date/time, time, month and week fields, whichever display format the field uses. CheckView respects the restrictions your form sets, such as a date range, excluded days of the week, future dates only or limited hours.
Multi-step forms. CheckView moves through WS Form’s tabs using the form’s own Next buttons.
The trickier field types. International phone fields, Select2 dropdowns, the rich text (TinyMCE) text area and file uploads are all handled. See Form Field Support for the full list.
REST submissions. WS Form submits through the WordPress REST API rather than an ordinary page post. CheckView recognizes those requests as part of the test, so suppression and cleanup apply to them.

Creating a WS Form test flow

WS Form works the same as any other supported form plugin. From your website dashboard, click Add Test Flow, choose WS Form (listed as WSForms), select your form and URL, set a schedule, and CheckView builds the steps. Full walkthrough: Creating a Form Test Flow.

Things to know

Forms placed without the block or shortcode

CheckView finds the pages a form appears on by looking for the WS Form block or the [ws_form] shortcode in page content, including synced patterns. A form placed some other way, for example through a page builder widget, a theme template or PHP, may not be listed against its page. Embedding it with the block or shortcode fixes that, or you can monitor the page with a custom test flow.

Draft forms are not listed

CheckView lists only forms whose status in WS Form is Published. If a form is missing from the list when you create a test flow, publish it in WS Form first.

Which actions run during a test

With integrations disabled, a test submission runs Save Submission, Show Message and Send Email, and nothing else. If you want to confirm a webhook or third-party action really fires, turn the setting off for that flow so every action on the form runs.

Dates are chosen from the end of the allowed range

CheckView picks the latest date and time your date picker allows, skipping any dates the form disables. That keeps the step valid however long the test keeps running, but it means test entries carry dates at the far end of the range rather than today’s date. See Date Pickers.

International phone numbers

For phone fields using WS Form’s international telephone input, CheckView enters a number with the +1 (United States) dialing code, and the field selects the country from it.
